Health Access seeks a communications coordinator to manage the exchange of information both internally and within the Health Access statewide Coalition of member organizations, as well as with the public. This position is responsible for maintaining the Health Access website, constituent database, and will ensure the timely and accurate delivery of information such as fact sheets, press releases, reports, gift acknowledgements, and other material through electronic and traditional means. The position may be based in either the Oakland business office, or the state capital office in Sacramento . In either case, some travel between the two sites will be necessary.
Health Access is a nonprofit organization dedicated to achieving quality, affordable health care for all Californians, and is a statewide coalition of over 200 member organizations representing seniors, children, people with disabilities, immigrants, communities of color, health care professionals, people of faith, labor, and working families. For eighteen years, Health Access has been a leader in the state’s health care reform movement. We have promoted universal health care solutions, and have won specific and important victories. Most recently, Health Access was the leading sponsor of the California HMO Patient Bill of Rights, and worked to expand and preserve Medi-Cal and Healthy Families health coverage for California families.
Candidate for this position must have the required skills, training, and/or work experience to:
- Maintain the technical aspects of the organization’s website to ensure its availability and functionality
- Regularly update the website with new information and other necessary changes, keeping the site accurate and current
- Maintain the constituent database including data entry, general maintenance of database program (currently Microsoft Access) to ensure data integrity, generate queries, reports, and lists from the database, and oversee automated database functions such as contribution acknowledgements and receipts
- Assist in the preparation of reports, proposals, and RFPs to current and potential funders, as well as assist with the technical aspects of collecting, recording, and disseminating information in the form of fact sheets, reports, letters, etc., to coalition partners, members, legislators, board members, and other stakeholders
- Research new or alternative products, software, and services as needed that will enhance the ability of the organization to communicate effectively and efficiently both internally and externally
- Assist with administrative, fundraising, and other organizational operations
Our ideal candidate is bright, creative, and energetic, and has:
- excellent writing skills
- strong communication and people skills, and the ability to interact with a diverse group of individuals and organizations
- at least two years of relevant experience in website and database management in a nonprofit setting
- the ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- a good sense of organization and the capacity to work on several projects concurrently.
General familiarity with health issues, California state politics, and nonprofit advocacy are a plus, but not required.
